What is Role-based Filtering during a Subscriber Import?

Article Details
Overview
A role-based email address is typically a company email address associated with a job role or mailing list and not a specific individual. Role addresses are associated with higher bounce rates, higher complaint rates, higher opt out rates and are viewed as a symptom of poor list hygiene by ISPs, mailbox providers, and spam filtering technology that stand in the way of your email reaching customers. As a result, role addresses present on your list can have a significant negative effect on email sender reputation and overall deliverability.

To protect your sender reputation and ensure high deliverability of email campaigns, role addresses that match any of the below generic prefixes are excluded from manual and automated list imports in Engage. This intentional suppression prevents role addresses from being added via import, but subscribers owning addresses of this type can still opt in to programs and other communications one at a time via opt in forms, Engage Sites landing pages, and the Engage API.

Roles/Prefixes
Any email address that matches the following list of generic prefixes (the characters before the @domain part of the address) will be excluded, and will appear in the exclusion/error report provided for the import.
